A l'époque, in the former days, Morocco was an important stop-over for the caravans carrying highly desired and sought-after goods: spices, l'épices, from Asia. Having spent 6 days at the Moroccan/Algerian border with our 4 camels and two guides, we have come to realise how hard the trans-Sahara journey must have been for the caravans, as there are no roads and 'getting forward' is quite complicated in the midst of dunes, sand and sun. And yet, it was possible and took the caravans only 52 days until Timbuktu! Look up the distance on a world map and be amazed on what people can achieve when working together as a team.So here, on the one hand, we have Africa, a continent Mark loves and on the other hand, the oriental touch and aura of Asia, for Tamara. And a history full of stories about long trans-continental journeys. Exotic and exciting! Just the kind of places we like to be - and the way life should be!
